As part of the Budget Act of 2019, the Legislature allocated $75 million to the Judicial Council to fund the implementation, operation, and evaluation of court pilot projects related to pretrial decision-making. The Budget Act requires that pilot courts collaborate with local justice system partners to make data available to the Judicial Council as required to measure the outcomes of the pilots. The Judicial Council is required to administer the program and report to the Department of Finance and the Joint Legislative Budget Committee every six months.
